Cannot Resume Downloading the File in Internet Download Manager (IDM), Cannot Find Server, Error Connecting. No Such Host Is Known. The Name Is Not An Official Hostname or Alias In IDM

I was downloading a video from YouTube and it was nearby to complete download, but unfortunately my internet connection gone down and downloading stopped.

After some time my internet connection gone up and when I clicked on the “Resume” button in IDM, it was giving some below type errors:

Cannot resume downloading the file, Cannot find server (Server Name), Error connecting. No Such host is known. The name is not an official hostname or alias, or it cannot be found in the database(s) being queried.

Above errors frustrated me a lot because my video had been downloaded to 90% and you will never wish to re-download it from starting when it has been downloaded to 90% or when the file size is more than 1GB.

Follow the below steps to solve this problem.

Step 1: When you receive the above errors (Cannot resume downloading the file or Cannot find server or Error connecting. No such host is known.), click on “OK” button. Clicking to “OK” button it will show below popup message and will open that (failed) YouTube video in your default web browser.

Step 2: Wait for some time to appear “Download this Video” icon and select your video format as shown in below.

Step 3: Select your video format or file size (Ensure that you have chosen correct file size as it was in the previous which was failed to resume downloading).

Note: Do not click to “Download Later” or “Start Download”. Just select your quality type (FLV file, quality 360p).

Step 4: Copy the “URL” which is showing in the below image.

The length of the URL will be very long (paste in notepad & check the length), so please make sure that you have copied whole URL from start to end.

Step 5: Now come back to IDM and select properties of that video which was failing on errors.

Step 6: Delete the complete URL which is showing in the “Address” tab and paste that URL which was copied in step 4. Click on “OK” button.

Step 7: Now do right click and click on “Resume Downloading” or just click on “Resume” button in IDM.
